Finally I could find some inspiration for creating the Artisteer ASP.NET MVC 4 plugin.
It actually wasn’t that much work, but I have a job to do as well 😉

If you don’t know Artisteer or need to install it you can click the banner below.

Artisteer - Web Design Generator

To install the plugin you should use Artisteer 4.0 or above.

Open Artisteer and go to File->Export->More Templates… and you will see something like this:

Click on ‘New’ and you will see the ASP.NET MVC 4 plugin, install it and it should appear in the export dropdown in your top window menu.

The plugin will create an ASP.NET MVC4 project that can be opened in Visual Studio 2012.

It’s based on the default ASP.NET MVC4 project template, so there is still quite some work to do for optimization.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Love Artisteer … Thanks for the MVC 4 plug in!!! by the way, I noticed that I created a menu with Item with Sub pages, After exporting it and opened it with VS2012, it is not showing the submenu. Any ideas? Thanks a lot

Never mind… It was my mistake. I actually exported the project, open it, and it works. I think my issue was that I started with MVC 3 export and tried to replace the files with your MVC 4 files. Thank you again. Great work!

Hey Chris,

I notice that when artisteer is exporting to mVC 4, the dropdown menu does not work or the dropdown child menu does not dropdown to display. I tried to modify the html that was generated but it is too complex. Do you plans to fix this in the next release.

Just trialled the new MVC4 plugin for Artisteer.

Brilliant! Took less than a day to create a new design and then integrate it into a vanilla C# MVC4 project – looks really cool.

Thanks Chriz for your hard work.

Regards
Ian

How can I remove the menu structure created and replace with my own?
Where is the code pulled from when using “@RenderSection(“DefaultHeader”)”

There should be a partial view called _DefaultMenu.cshtml in the Views->Shared folder (if not visible click on ‘show all files’ in the top menu of the solution explorter and include it in the project).
You can replace this with your own menu.

Hi,

Like a lot of people, I’ve only the home edition of Artisteer (for 2 sites per year it’s enought) BUT I will use the CMS Composite C1 (http://www.composite.net/) in Asp.Net MVC Razor and the license of your template is open source.

Is it possible that adapt your source for this CMS (so having source on Git or SVN first) ?

Best regards

When you install the plugin from the marketplace, you can find the source code somewhere in the folder C:UsersYourNameAppDataRoamingArtisteerArtisteer4LibraryDataTemplates

Hello.
I just downloaded the “Visual Studio ASP.NET MVC4” plugin from Artisteer marketplace (v. 1.0).
When I’m trying to compile exported project from within Visual Studio 2012, I get following message:
Could not load type ‘ArtisteerMvc4.MvcApplication’.

How this can be solved?

Hi Chris,

Artisteer has a 4.2 release candidate that has broken the ASP.NET MVC export. The first obvious thing missing is that web.config is blank. I can’t tell if there are any other issues. but all the other files appear to be there.

Would you have a chance to take a look at this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,

Extensoft is out with Artisteer 4.2 (pre-release), which does not work with the current version of the MVC4 plugin. The export happens but a few files are blank when exported. Any ideas what is happening?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris! I like the plugin; however, I just switched over to Artisteer 4.2 and the plugin in exporting empty packages.config and web.config files. Thoughts?

Dear author! I
wok with Visual Studio and thinking about to purchase Artisteer. Unfortunately, trial version of Artisteer does not allow to install plugin. Can you please export any template and send it to me, so it’s make possible to test the result before buying Artisteer. Or maybe somebody in this forum, who have plugin installed, can do it (any template)?

thanks for this chris – in a previous job, i8 used artisteer to create the base html/css and then ported it over to mvc (v2 in those days). coming back fresh a few years later and looking at artisteer v4 and your plugin really is very inspiring – i’ve still to try this out but the promise is great.

cheers again
jim

I have not tried opening the template with VS2012, VS2013 and there have not open the exported template with artisteer 4.2 as Visual Studio MVC4.
If this review could send them pictures of the error it would, but there is no way.
